Maya de Silva Chafe

Born in Santa Barbara CA, Maya de Silva Chafe made her way to New York City in 1986, with a BFA in Acting/Dance from UNM, to train and work as a flamenco dancer. Authenticating her skills she began a series of studies in Spain, culminating with a scholarship at the Cristina Heeren Foundation in Sevilla. She has danced on stages of all sizes, notably at the Joyce, at Dance Theater Workshop, and at The Metropolitan Opera.

For ten years, with support from NYFA and LMCC, Ms. de Silva directed her company Flamenco Revolucion, producing four New York City seasons, regional tours and a performance at the Jacob’s Pillow Dance Festival in 2009.

Maya has had her writing published in Flamenco World, Flamenco Buzz, La Voz de Flamenco Vivo.
