Jeanne d´Arc Casas Panouze

Jeanne d’Arc Simone Casas Panouze is a Franco-Puerto Rican performer, stage creator, and dance historian based in Madrid. From an early age she trained in classical dance, contemporary dance, and flamenco. She holds a bachelor’s degree in Humanities with a concentration in individualized studies in dance and music from the University of Puerto Rico, Río Piedras Campus (2007); a Master’s degree in Choreography and Performance from the University of New Mexico (2011); and a PhD in History from the Carlos III University of Madrid (2025).

Jeanne has performed across the country and Spain as a soloist and choreographer with renowned companies including Soledad Barrio y Noche Flamenca in NYC, Arte y Pasion in Philadelphia, and Zorongo Flamenco in Minnesota. In March 2020, Casas moved to Spain to start her doctoral studies in Contemporary History at the University of Carlos III in Madrid.

Her doctoral dissertation, Between Two Waters: History of Spanish Dance in Puerto Rico (1900–1960), reconstructs—through a decolonial and gender-focused perspective—the trajectories of the women who professionalized Spanish dance on the island. She has also contributed as a guest writer to the book considered the most extensive compilation of Puerto Rican experimental dance, Habitar lo imposible: Danza y experimentación en Puerto Rico (2022).
