Alishanee Chafe-Hearmon

Alishanee is a dancer and artist living between New York and Berlin. She holds a BA in dance, psychology, and theology from CUNY Hunter College and is the co-founder of Symbolic Movement Choir, an experimental dance ensemble working between the German tanztheater lexicon and the American modern dance legacy. Her solo work researches the relational language between musician and dancer, specifically in transposing the traditional structures of flamenco into different tools and forms. She has performed at venues across the US and Germany including the Joyce Theater, Jacob's Pillow, The Juilliard School, Uferstudios, and Hosek Contemporary. From 2023-2025 she joined the company Noche Flamenca and was under the mentorship of Soledad Barrio. She also attended the Martha Graham School and has trained under Alberto Del Saz of the Nikolai/Louis Foundation and Pau Aran, former Pina Bausch company member. Her writing is an associative tool to reach deeper niches of the artistic process and document her journey as a dancer while making inquiries on tradition, innovation and collaboration.
