Freddy Flamencolover

Hola! I'm Freddy Flamencolover, and I live in Sevilla. I write about my adventures in the flamenco world here from beautiful Andalucía, the cradle of flamenco music as we know it today.

In the 80s, I lived and worked and went out in Ibiza, where I lived for 4 years (sex, drugs and disco) with friends of mine who had a clothing store in Ibiza and invited me to their wedding. That was my first introduction to flamenco music & culture. They were of gitano (Romani) descent and that meant flamenco, flamenco. I used to play bass guitar in a Jazz group, but started losing interest when I remembered that I had experienced some flamenco music more than 30 years ago. Boom, searching the internet I came across many good clips and also opportunities to take lessons. So that's how my passion and love for flamenco culture started, Ole.

For many years, I have been going on a month-long "holiday" to Andalucía every year to attend workshops in dancing, playing guitar, and singing. Every time I would think "one day, I'm going to live here." And now, I'm happy to say that I’ve been living in Andalusia for almost 4 years. At first, I lived in Sevilla itself, but nowadays I reside in a small village that is about 10 minutes out of the city by car. It’s wonderfully quiet, and everything is easily accessible by car. Of course there are many flamenco events in the city itself, but don't forget the many villages where flamenco events and festivals are also happening and definitely worth the visit.

I have now also become a member of more than 6 flamenco peñas (social clubs, and they always have something going on. That has been my life for a few years now. Every week I visit at least 5 flamenco events. It’s exactly what I wanted to do, because flamenco is more than an art form here. It’s a way of living. So I am a true aficionado, a so to speak "lover" of this great flamenco culture and way of life. Flamenco shows its traces all over the world, from Eastern Japan to Western California and from Northern Finland to Southern South Africa— where many flamenco artists from here in Andalucía can be found sharing their love of flamenco.

Greetings from Sevilla, Andalucia!
